Sharks down Canucks in OT

Nov 15, 2013 - 8:14 AM Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Dan Boyle scored on the power play at 2:38 of overtime as the San Jose Sharks rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday.

In the extra session, Henrik Sedin was called for hooking at 2:07 and the Sharks took advantage.

Logan Couture faked a shot from the high slot and passed it over to the left circle for Joe Pavelski, who one-touched the pass over to the right where Boyle wristed it home.

Tomas Hertl scored late to tie the game for the Sharks, who have won their past two. Antti Niemi made 34 saves in the win.

Kevin Bieksa had the lone goal of the game for the Canucks, who have lost their past three. Roberto Luongo gave up both goals on 30 shots.

"It's a kick in the teeth to lose it," Canucks head coach John Tortorella said.

With Vancouver holding a 1-0 lead late in the game, San Jose pulled Niemi for an extra attacker and the move paid off. Boyle's shot from the high slot was going wide of the net, but Hertl picked it up at the right side and snuck it in with 1:05 left in regulation.

"We weren't the better team tonight and we have been on the other end of that where we were the better team and found a way not to win it. Tonight we found a way to come back," Sharks head coach Todd McLellan said.

The only other goal of the game came at 13:40 of the second period when Vancouver got on board courtesy of the power play as Bieksa's shot from the high slot went through traffic for his first of the season.
