Hoggan, Bruins cruise by Islanders

Sep 19, 2007 - 1:05 AM ST JOHN'S, Newfoundland (Ticker) -- Jeff Hoggan scored two goals as the Boston Bruins posted a 3-1 preseason victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.

Fellow right wing Chuck Kobasew also added a goal for Boston, which scored all three goals within the first 23 minutes.

In the first period, Hoggan, streaking down the left wing, ripped a shot past goaltender Mike Morrison with 4:06 left to put the Bruins in front, 1-0.

Less than three minutes later, Kobasew scored with a two-man advantage for a 2-0 cushion.

Down a man early in the second session, Boston scored again when Hoggan lifted a wrist shot over Morrison at the 2:16 mark.

All three goals were unassisted for the Bruins, who outshot the Islanders, 38-25, and are 1-0 in preseason play.

Defenseman Chris Campoli cut the Islander's deficit to 3-1 when he fired a low slapshot by Boston netminder Tim Thomas. The power-play goal was assisted by fellow blueliner Radek Martinek.
