Cammalleri, Brown lead Kings to shootout victory

Sep 23, 2007 - 5:15 AM LAS VEGAS (Ticker) -- Thanks to Dustin Brown and Mike Cammalleri, the Los Angeles Kings are heading to Europe on a winning note.

Brown forged a tie in the third period and teamed with Cammalleri to score shootout goals as the Kings skated to a 3-2 preseason victory over the Colorado Avalanche at the MGM Grand Arena on Saturday.

Slated to participate in an international tournament in Austria entitled "Red Bulls Salute 2007" before opening the NHL regular season against the reigning Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks in London next Saturday, the Kings rallied from a pair of deficits in this one.

Anze Kopitar erased a 1-0 deficit just 37 seconds into the second period before setting up Brown for a tally with 6:41 remaining in the third that knotted the contest at 2-2.

Following a scoreless overtime, Cammalleri gave Los Angeles the edge in the shootout, beating goaltender Tyler Weiman in the first round. After both teams came up empty in the second round, Brown sealed the victory on the Kings' third chance.

Tyler Arnason opened the scoring for Colorado at 12:52 of the first period, and Calder Trophy runner-up Paul Stastny gave the Avalanche a 2-1 edge 83 seconds into the second session.
