Blake keys Maple Leafs' power surge

TORONTO (Ticker) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs benefited from three power-play goals to defeat the Detroit Red Wings, 6-4, on Friday and earn their first home victory in four tries in the preseason.

Jason Blake had a power-play goal and an assist for Toronto, while captain Mats Sundin set up a pair of tallies.

Thus far in the preseason, the pair has shown good chemistry since Blake joined the team after signing a five-year, $20 million deal in the offseason. Blake scored 40 goals last season as a member of the New York Islanders.

Darcy Tucker and defenseman Andy Wozniewski also netted power-play goals for Toronto.

Defenseman Ian White gave the Maple Leafs a 4-3 lead midway through the second period on a breakaway. But Kris Draper tied the game at 4-4 just 41 seconds later with his second goal of the evening, both of which were set up by Dallas Drake.

Blue-liner Niklas Kronwall had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings. Andrew Raycroft picked up the win for Toronto despite allowing four goals on only 15 shots.

Third on Detroit's depth chart, Jimmy Howard made 21 saves.

The teams conclude their preseasons Saturday at Joe Louis Arena.
