Bourque tallies game-winner as Capitals edge Bruins
Sep 27, 2008 - 11:12 PM BOSTON (Ticker) -- Chris Bourque snapped a tie with 2:15 remaining in the third period to give the Washington Capitals a 4-3 preseason victory over the Boston Bruins on Saturday.The son of former Bruins great and Hall of Famer Ray Bourque, Chris Bourque snapped a wrist shot past goaltender Tim Thomas from the left slot during a power play to give Washington the lead for good. He also added an assist on captain Chris Clark's man-advantage goal three minutes into the game.
The Bruins went ahead, 2-1, as defenseman Andrew Ference and Blake Wheeler scored less than four minutes apart midway through the first period.
Boyd Gordon knotted the game late in the first and Tomas Fleischmann put the Capitals back ahead with the only goal of the middle session.
Thomas allowed four goals on 21 shots for the Bruins, who tied the game on Petteri Nokelainen's tally 5 1/2 minutes into the third.
Jose Theodore stopped 13 shots over two periods for the Capitals and Brent Johnson, who made 15 saves, withstood a furious rally in the final minute to preserve the win.
Keith Aucoin had a pair of assists for Washington.
