Kotalik scores in OT to lead Sabres over Maple Leafs

Sep 28, 2008 - 2:09 AM BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- Ales Kotalik scored 63 seconds into overtime Saturday, lifting the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-2 preseason triumph over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Neither team was able to break through in the first two periods as Toronto's Justin Pogge and Buffalo's Ryan Miller turned aside 22 and 17 shots, respectively, over 40 minutes.

Ian White snapped the scoreless tie at 5:24 of the third period with a power-play goal and fellow defenseman Pavel Kubina gave the Maple Leafs a 2-0 bulge with 6:40 remaining with another man-advantage tally.

However, the Sabres proved to be just as efficient with the extra skater as Derek Roy scored with 2:21 left and Paul Gaustad tallied with five seconds to go, forcing overtime. Buffalo went 2-for-7 on the power play, while Toronto was 2-for-8.

Kotalik and Roy each added an assist and Maxim Afinogenov set up all three goals for the Sabres.

Miller finished with 26 saves, while Pogge stopped a total of 29.
