Moss propels Flames past Oilers

Oct 1, 2008 - 3:39 AM EDMONTON, Alberta (Ticker) -- David Moss continued his spectacular preseason by scoring twice on Tuesday as the Calgary Flames recorded a 4-0 triumph over their provincial rival, the Edmonton Oilers.

All-Star defenseman Dion Phaneuf and Eric Nystrom also tallied, blue-liner Cory Sarich added two assists and Curtis McElhinney stopped all 19 shots he faced for Calgary, which has won four of its five preseason contests.

Entering the game with two goals and three assists in three contests, Moss scored twice in the second period to put this one out of reach. Both of Moss' tallies were set up by Sarich, who has one goal and three assists in four exhibition games.

Boyd also added to his strong preseason by assisting on Moss' first tally, which came 2:16 into the second session to give the Flames a 2-0 advantage. Boyd has one goal and six assists in four contests.

That was more than enough offense for McElhinney, who stopped seven shots in both the first and third periods while denying five in the second.

Dwayne Roloson made 27 saves over two periods and Devan Dubnyk stopped all 10 shots he faced in the third for Edmonton, which has won only one of its five preseason games (1-2-2).
