Trio help Canucks skate past Sharks
Oct 3, 2008 - 4:49 AM VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- The Vancouver Canucks' new top line certainly was in fine form on Thursday night.Steve Bernier, Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin each tallied as the Canucks posted a 3-2 preseason victory over the San Jose Sharks.
Daniel Sedin added two assists and twin brother Henrik picked up one while backup Curtis Sanford made 31 saves for Vancouver, which recently named Roberto Luongo captain - making him the first NHL goaltender to receive the honor in 61 years.
A big offseason acquisition for the Canucks, Bernier started training camp playing alongside rookie Cody Hodgson and veteran Pavol Demitra until joining the Sedins on the top line.
After Riley Armstrong gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead with 2:35 left in the first period, Bernier and Daniel Sedin netted power-play goals in the second session to give Vancouver a brief edge.
Joe Pavelski tied the game with 4:01 to go in the second, but Henrik Sedin snapped the deadlock 39 seconds into the third, beating Evgeni Nabokov to the glove side with a wrist shot. The Sharks' netminder was out of position after defenseman Kevin Bieksa's slap shot caromed off the end boards.
Bieksa collected a pair of assists for the Canucks, who were outshot, 12-3, in the first period and by a 13-4 margin in the third.
