Byfuglien, Havlat score twice as Blackhawks fly past Avalanche

DENVER (Ticker) -- Dustin Byfuglien scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 7-4 preseason victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday.

The loss snapped Colorado's three-game winning streak.

Byfuglien scored the first goal of the night for the Blackhawks and tallied again in the third period as Chicago improved to 5-1-1 in the preseason.

Martin Havlat also netted two goals, including an empty-netter that capped the scoring. Reigning Calder Trophy winner Patrick Kane added three assists for the Blackhawks.

Byfuglien's goal at 6:10 of the third period was Chicago's second power-play tally of the game and capped a four-goal surge that erased a 3-2 deficit. Kane made a pretty pass to the defenseman-turned-forward, whose one-timer beat goaltender Andrew Raycroft to give Chicago a commanding 6-3 lead.

David Jones and Paul Stastny each scored a pair of goals for the Avalanche, who fell to 3-1-1.

After falling behind, 2-0, midway through the first period, the Avalanche got on the board with 8:15 remaining. Jones stole the puck in the neutral zone and skated in untouched before putting a wrister past netminder Cristobal Huet.

Stastny forged a 2-2 tie with his first goal of the preseason just 38 seconds into the second period, when he tallied on the power play. Colorado took a brief lead as Jones scored at 2:45, but Dave Bolland knotted the contest less than three minutes later and defenseman Brent Seabrook tallied at 9:08 to put Chicago ahead for good.

Patrick Sharp netted his league-leading fifth goal of the preseason while blue-liner Cam Barker and captain Jonathan Toews added two assists apiece for the Blackhawks.
