Rangers try to regroup after consecutive routs

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New York Rangers were cruising along with five straight wins, but then they crashed hard.

The Rangers try to regroup after two straight blowout defeats when they host their division-rival New York Islanders on Tuesday.

After getting hammered by the Toronto Maple Leafs, 9-2, on Saturday, the Rangers returned to Madison Square Garden and were pounded, 6-1, by the New Jersey Devils on Sunday.

Trailing 2-0, the Rangers got their only goal when Petr Prucha scored midway through the second period, but the Devils scored four unanswered goals to pull away. Kevin Weekes struggled in goal, allowing the six goals on just 28 shots.

The Islanders, 2-3-0 in their last five, try to build off an impressive 6-0 blanking of the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday.

Viktor Kozlov, Mike Sillinger, Miroslav Satan, Shawn Bates and Andy Hilbert all had a goal and an assist for Atlanta while Rick DiPietro recorded 37 saves for the shutout.
