Crosby leads Penguins against Blues
Dec 19, 2006 - 4:09 PM St Louis (7-19-6) at Pittsburgh (15-12-5) 7:00 pm ESTPITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The red-hot Sidney Crosby is becoming perhaps the best player in the NHL, and he looks to continue his torrid pace when the Pittsburgh Penguins host the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.
Crosby, the first overall selection in the 2005 draft, has been absolutely fantastic lately. The 19-year old has three goals and 10 assists in his last four games. He had a six-point game in an 8-4 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday.
Crosby leads the NHL in scoring with 52 points, and is the first teenage player to lead the league in scoring since Edmonton's Wayne Gretzky led in the 1979-80 season.
The Penguins are 4-0-1 in their last five games.
St. Louis has continued to struggle in going 0-8-3 in their last 11 games, and are 0-2-2 under new coach Andy Murray, who took over on December 12. The Blues have been outscored, 12-6, in those four games and have surrendered four power-play goals.
The Blues suffered a weekend sweep from the Nashville Predators, including a 2-1 overtime defeat on Sunday. Lee Stempniak scored the only St. Louis goal.
