Streaking Canadiens can extend lowly Flyers' record skid
Dec 21, 2006 - 3:30 PM Philadelphia (8-21-4) at Montreal (20-8-5) 7:30 pm ESTMONTREAL (Ticker) -- The Montreal Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers are two teams going in different directions.
The Canadiens aim for their fifth straight victory when they host the Flyers, who have lost a franchise-record seven straight contests.
Christopher Higgins scored two goals to lead Montreal to a 5-2 victory over Buffalo, which moved the Canadiens closer to the Sabres in the Northeast Division. The left wing returned on Saturday after missing 18 games with an ankle injury and now has 10 goals this season.
Montreal moved within five points of the Sabres, who have a conference-high 50 points.
Antero Niittymaki made 40 saves for the Flyers, who fell to 1-7 vs. Southeast Division teams and fell to 8-21-4, the worst record in the NHL with a 2-1 loss to Carolina on Tuesday.
Philadelphia will have newly-acquired Mike York, who they received in a trade with the New York Islanders on Wednesday for center Randy Robitaille and a fifth-round pick. However, York may not be joined by Flyers captain Peter Forsberg, who sat out Tuesday's contest with a concussion he suffered in Saturday's loss at Washington.
The Flyers are 0-7-3 when Forsberg does not play.
