Guerin leads comeback victory over Sabres

Dec 24, 2006 - 6:33 AM ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- Bill Guerin helped the St. Louis Blues continue their winning streak.

Guerin scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead the Blues to a 3-2 triumph over the Buffalo Sabres.

A 15-year veteran, Guerin scored his 15th goal of the season 1:35 into overtime. He took a breakaway pass from Doug Weight and tipped the puck past the glove of goaltender Martin Biron to extend the Blues' winning streak to three games.

"It is a good feeling, I will tell you that," Guerin said. "It is something we are starting to get used to around here. We are working hard every day, buying into the system. We have been rewarded lately and we just want to continue to do that."

Guerin tied the contest, 2-2, midway through the third period by deflecting a shot from Jay McClement past Biron.

"A team desperate for respect gave us all, no, make that more than we could handle," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said. "That was true at both ends and all night long."

Goaltender Manny Legace stopped 21 shots for St. Louis, which was 0-for-2 on the power play.

"We were down one in the third," Legace said. "It was about showing grit and coming back. The boys have bought into it and are playing their roles, taking pride in what they do. That's the big difference and it's very nice to watch."

Jochen Hecht and Jason Pominville each had a goal for the Sabres, who were outshot, 12-6 ,in the third period.

Biron made 29 saves for Buffalo, which was 0-for-3 with the extra skater.

"Most people know there was too much talent there for them to keep being as down as they have been," Biron said of the Blues. "But, this has been the kind of game we find a way to win this season.
