Sabres look for more offense against Capitals

Dec 26, 2006 - 2:56 PM Washington (16-12-7) at Buffalo (25-7-3) 7:00 pm EST

BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- The Buffalo Sabres hope a stay at home will help them revert back to their high-scoring ways.

The Sabres look to snap a two-game losing streak at home when they face the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.

The top team in the Eastern Conference, Buffalo has struggled recently, managing just one win in its last four games. In their last game on Saturday, the Sabres carried a one-goal lead into the third period against the lowly St. Louis Blues but could not hold on, losing a 3-2 overtime decision.

The top-scoring team in the league with 3.77 goals per game, Buffalo has mustered three goals or less in seven of its last eight games, going 4-3-1 over that stretch.

Daniel Briere, who leads the team with 42 points, is in the midst of a seven-game drought without a goal.

The Sabres will face a strong challenge from the Capitals, who have won their last four road games, including a 3-2 victory at Toronto on Saturday.

The Calder Trophy winner, Alexander Ovechkin had a goal and an assist in a three-goal second period.

Ovechkin has been one of the driving forces on the road, collecting nine goals and 14 points in Washington's last seven road games.

The Capitals won the only previous meeting between the clubs this season, 7-4, on December 2.
