Sharks wrap up six-game homestand vs. Coyotes

SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- Some inconsistent play at home has caused the San Jose Sharks to slip further back in the Pacific Division.

After splitting their last eight home contests, the Sharks close out a six-game homestand Thursday when they host the Phoenix Coyotes in the opener of a home-and-home series.

San Jose has lost three of its last five contests to fall 12 points behind the red-hot Anaheim Ducks in the division. However, the Sharks are second in the Western Conference in goals allowed (81), trailing only the Detroit Red Wings (78).

Captain Patrick Marleau scored his 16th goal of the season and Steve Bernier added his 11th for San Jose in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to Anaheim.

Phoenix has struggled to score for much of the season, ranking 14th in the West with 88 goals. The Coyotes have dropped six of their last eight encounters and are just 3-12-1 away from home.

Yanic Perreault scored his 10th goal, Oleg Saprykin added his eighth and Fredrik Sjostrom his sixth for Phoenix in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Los Angeles Kings.
