Kings defeat Ducks in shootout

Sep 26, 2006 - 6:44 AM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Eric Belanger scored in the sixth round of the shootout to help the Los Angeles Kings earn a 5-4 preseason win against the Anaheim Ducks.

In the shootout, Anze Kopitar scored on the Los Angeles' second attempt, but Andy McDonald evened things on Anaheim's next shot. Both teams were stymied on each of their next three attempts before Belanger broke through on the Kings' sixth try.

Stanislav Chistov was stopped by Kings goaltender Mathieu Garon to end the game.

It is the second time in eight days Los Angeles has beaten Anaheim. The Kings routed the Ducks, 7-1, last Monday.

In this one, the Kings scored four straight goals in regulation after the Ducks had taken a 3-0 lead. Tom Kostopoulos tied the game at 3-3 at 3:45 of the third period and Michael Cammalleri put Los Angeles ahead, 4-3, on a power-play goal with 10:41 left in the session.

With 8:15 remaining in regulation, McDonald's second goal of the game tied the score at 4-4. McDonald added an assist and Teemu Selanne had a goal and an assist for the Ducks.

Defenseman Chris Pronger set up three goals and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 23 shots for Anaheim.

Blue-liner Lubomir Visnovsky had two assists and Garon made 22 saves for Los Angeles.
