Sabres gun for fifth straight victory

OTTAWA (Ticker) -- The Buffalo Sabres stumbled in a 2-1 loss to the lowly St. Louis Blues on December 23, and have played with fire since that defeat.

The Sabres go for their fifth consecutive victory when they tangle with the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday.

In winnings four straight, Buffalo has outscored its vanquished foes, 16-6. The Sabres extended their win streak with a 3-1 triumph over the New York Islanders on Monday.

Buffalo, 15-3-1 on the road this season, has 61 points and leads the Eastern Conference.

Paul Gaustad, Jochen Hecht and Maxim Afinogenov scored for Buffalo while Ryan Miller made 29 saves to spoil ted Nolan's return to Buffalo.

The Senators come off a 3-2 overtime loss against the Atlanta Thrashers on Monday. Tom Preissing and Daniel Alfredsson scored for the Senators, who had their four-game win streak snapped.
