Flyers hope to continue road run vs. Rangers without Forsberg
Jan 4, 2007 - 3:35 PM Philadelphia (11-24-4) at NY Rangers (20-17-4) 7:00 pm ESTNEW YORK (Ticker) -- Peter Forsberg's absence will make it more difficult for the Philadelphia Flyers to continue their unbeaten streak at Madison Square Garden.
The Flyers go for their season-high fourth straight victory and try to improve their mark to 8-0-1 in their last nine road matchups against the New York Rangers when the Atlantic Division rivals square off Thursday.
The 2003 Hart and Art Ross Trophy winner, Forsberg will be sidelined by a groin injury suffered in Tuesday's 3-2 victory over the New York Islanders. He has been limited to 27 games this seasons because of an ankle injury and a concussion.
Mike Knuble scored his 16th goal of the season and Kyle Calder and Ryan Poultny added tallies Tuesday for the Flyers, who have not lost since ending a 10-game losing streak last Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Philadelphia also has dominated New York here of late, winning seven of its last eight trips to Madison Square Garden. The only time the Flyers have lost here since the 2002-03 campaign was on April 4, when they dropped a 3-2 shootout decision.
New York has rebounded well from its own seven-game slide with consecutive victories over the Washington Capitals and the New Jersey Devils.
Marcel Hossa capped off a thrilling game by tallying in the eighth round of a shootout in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Devils.
