Straka can surpass last season's goal total for Rangers
Jan 6, 2007 - 3:23 PM NY Rangers (21-17-4) at Montreal (23-12-5) 3:00 pm ESTMONTREAL (Ticker) -- Coming off one of the best nights of his career, Martin Straka is about to surpass his goal total from last season.
Straka looks to lead the Rangers to their fourth consecutive victory Saturday when they visit the Montreal Canadiens in the first meeting of the season between the "Original Six" rivals.
The 34-year-old Czech has 21 goals this season, one shy of last year's total. A 14-year veteran, his best season came in 1998-1999, when he scored 35 in 80 contests for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Straka recorded his sixth career hat trick by scoring a goal in each period and Jaromir Jagr collected his 38th assist for the Rangers in Thursday's 3-2 triumph over the Philadelphia Flyers.
Montreal goaltender Christobal Huet is hoping to bounce back after one of his most disappointing efforts of the campaign in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Washington Capitals.
Entering 4-0-1 with a 1.99 goals-against average in five prior encounters against the Capitals, Huet was pulled midway through the second period after yielding four tallies on 20 shots.
Craig Rivet scored his fifth goal of the season on a power play for the Canadiens, who have dropped three of four.
