Capitals host Thrashers in sixth matchup of campaign

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Alex Ovechkin was a one-man wrecking crew the last time the Washington Capitals faced the Atlanta Thrashers.

Ovechkin tries to lead the Capitals to just their second victory in their last seven games Saturday when they face the Captials for the sixth time this season.

The reigning Calder Trophy winner, Ovechkin recorded a hat trick, including the game-winner just six seconds into overtime to lead Washington to a 3-2 triumph over Atlanta on December 15. It was the Capitals' quickest overtime in franchise history.

Dainius Zubrus and Alexander Semin scored two goals each and Ovechkin added three assists for the Capitals, who snapped a five-game losing streak with Thursday's 5-1 triumph over the Montreal Canadiens.

Atlanta has lost three of its last four after winning five in a row in mid-to-late December and still has a nine-point lead over the Carolina Hurricanes in the Southeast Division.

Marian Hossa scored a pair of goals and Ilya Kovalchuk added his 22nd tally for the Thrashers, who squandered a three-goal lead in Friday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Phoenix Coyotes.

Atlanta is unbeaten in five meetings against Washington this season and 9-1-3 in the series since the start of the 2005-2006 season.
