Red Wings continue road trip vs. Kings

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Detroit Red Wings opened their five-game Western road trip with a poor defensive effort.

Detroit looks to win for the sixth time in eight contests and defeat the Los Angeles Kings for the 12th consecutive time Saturday in their third meeting of the season.

After scoring three times, the Red Wings yielded a season-high nine consecutive tallies, including six on the power play, in Thursday's 9-4 loss to the San Jose Sharks.

Tomas Holmstrom scored his eighth goal of the season, Jason Williams added his seventh and Jiri Hudler his sixth to give Detroit the early 3-0 lead. Six-time Vezina Trophy winner Dominik Hasek had one of his worst outings in several season and was lifted in the third period.

The Kings have three victories in 10 contests, including Wednesday's 3-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Goaltender Mathieu Garon made 26 saves for his second shutout of the season and Michael Cammalleri netted his 14th goal, his first tally since December 14.

Los Angeles has dropped the first two meetings against Detroit - including Sunday's 6-2 win - and has not beaten the Red Wings in 11 matchups since October 12, 2002.
