Surging Sharks aim for fourth straight win

SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- The San Jose Sharks have responded admirably since their embarrassing loss nearly two weeks ago.

The Sharks shoot for their fourth straight victory when they host the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday.

San Jose suffered its worst loss of the season, an 8-0 drubbing at Phoenix, on December 30. But the Sharks have won three straight since then, outscoring their opponents by an 18-8 margin.

Reigning Hart Trophy winner Joe Thornton has led the Sharks during their streak, registering a goal and nine assists.

Thornton, who had three assists in San Jose's 5-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday, ranks seconds in the league in assists with 42 and trails only Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby (44).

Edmonton, 2-0-2 in its last four, defeated the Sharks, 6-4, on October 12 in the clubs' only meeting this season.

The Oilers earned a 2-1 overtime win over the Los Angeles Kings on Monday for their last triumph. Jan Hejda scored the game-winner, his first goal of the season, in overtime while Dwayne Roloson made 34 saves.
