Devils aim for continued success against rival Islanders

UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- The New Jersey Devils have had more than their share of success against the New York Islanders.

The Devils aim for their fifth win in six games and their third win over the Islanders in the past two weeks when the Atlantic Division rivals face off on Saturday.

New Jersey has gone 7-1-1 in its last nine contests, including two victories over New York during that stretch. Martin Brodeur has been on fire in those two wins for the Devils, stopping 72 of 75 shots, to improve to 34-17-2 against the Islanders.

The Devils posted a 4-3 victory over the Islanders on January 4 as Zach Parise scored two goals and Brodeur made 40 saves.

In its last contest, New Jersey snapped a six-game skid against Atlanta with a 2-1 win on Friday.

Scott Gomez and Sergei Brylin scored power-play goals 28 seconds apart midway through the third period, erasing a deficit and leading the Devils to a 2-1 triumph over the slumping Thrashers.

With the win, the Devils are even with Atlanta, collecting 56 points, second-most in the Eastern Conference. They also are leading the Rangers by eight points and the third-place Islanders by 11 points in the Atlantic Division.
