Canadiens edge Lightning on Perezhogin's overtime goal

Sep 27, 2006 - 2:34 AM MONTREAL (Ticker) -- Alexander Perezhogin picked a perfect time to score his first goal of the preseason.

Perezhogin tallied midway through overtime, lifting the Montreal Canadiens to a 4-3 triumph over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Just over two minutes into the extra session, defenseman Mike Komisarek spotted Perezhogin in front of the net. The second-year left wing waited for goaltender Johan Holmqvist to commit before slipping the puck inside the left goalpost.

Andrei Kastsitsyn registered a goal and an assist in regulation for the Canadiens, who went 1-for-3 on the power play. They also got tallies from captain Saku Koivu and blue-liner Mathieu Dandenault, in addition to 27 saves from Cristobal Huet.

Ryan Craig had a power-play goal and an assist for Tampa Bay, which also received man-advantage tallies from Eric Perrin and defenseman Filip Kuba. Martin St. Louis added two assists and Holmqvist turned aside 37 shots for the Lightning, who went 3-for-10 with the extra skater.

Tampa Bay right wing Rob DiMaio suffered a concussion just 2:06 into the contest when he was pounded into the boards from behind by Montreal's Guillaume Latendresse. DiMaio did not return and Latendresse was given a boarding major and a game misconduct.
