Coyotes go for seventh straight road win
Jan 17, 2007 - 1:53 PM Phoenix (21-22-2) at Colorado (22-20-3) 9:00 pm ESTDENVER (Ticker) -- Shane Doan and the Phoenix Coyotes were unstoppable the last time they hit the road.
The Coyotes look to inch closer to a franchise record with their seventh straight road win Wednesday when they visit the Colorado Avalanche.
One of the NHL's worst clubs over the season's first three months, Phoenix climbed back into postseason contention thanks to a seven-game winning streak bridging the months of December and January, including a perfect 5-0 road trip from January 1-9.
The Coyotes, who also won at San Jose on December 28, are on their longest road winning streak since a six-game run from October 26-November 28, 1998.
A win Wednesday would move Phoenix within one victory of the franchise record set in the 1984-85 campaign, when the club won eight consecutive road contests while located in Winnipeg.
Phoenix's leading scorer last season, Doan was outstanding during the team's last road trip, netting five goals in the five games.
Doan registered a pair of assists and tallied in the shootout Monday as the Coyotes held on for a 5-4 victory over the St. Louis Blues.
Defenseman Ed Jovanovski tallied twice and Ladislav Nagy scored the game-winner in the shootout for Phoenix, which improved to 9-2-1 in its last 12 games.
Colorado looks to rebound from Monday's 3-1 loss to the Sharks. Captain Joe Sakic scored Colorado's lone goal in the third period on the power play.
An All-Star and the Avalanche's leading scorer, Sakic has 10 goals and 13 assists over his last 18 contests.
