Streaking Canucks roll into showdown with Sabres

BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- The Vancouver Canucks are probably not happy the All-Star break is coming up.

The Canucks, who have been red hot lately, go for their 11th win in their last 12 games when they visit the Buffalo Sabres on Friday.

Vancouver won its third straight, 2-1, over the Ottawa Senators on Thursday. Roberto Luongo won his third straight for the Canucks, who have outscored their opponents, 12 -2, during their streak.

Luongo has been excellent lately, going 10-1 in his last 11 games while only allowing 23 goals.

The Sabres, whose 68 points is tops in the Eastern Conference, snapped a three-game winless streak with a 6-3 victory over the Boston Bruins on Wednesday in the second of a home-and-home series.

Left wing Daniel Paille led Buffalo with his first two goals of the season while defenseman Brian Campbell, selected as a starter for Wednesday's All-Star Game, had a goal and an assist.

Buffalo, whose 178 goals is the most in the NHL, finally found its offense after it was limited to only eight goals in its previous four games.

Right wing Maxim Afinogenov also had a goal and an assist, snapping a skid in which he only had one goal and one assist in his last six games.
