Red Wings continue road trip after embarrassing loss

DENVER (Ticker) -- The Detroit Red Wings continue their three-game road trip when they visit the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.

The Red Wings opened the trip with a humbling 3-1 loss to the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday. Johan Franzen scored the lone goal for Detroit while Dominik Hasek suffered a rare loss.

Hasek, whose 2.03 goals-against average is second in the league, is also second in wins with 25. The loss snapped a four-game win streak for Hasek, who won his only appearance against the Avalanche this season, stopping 22 shots in a 4-3 shootout win on January 9.

The Avalanche have won two of their last three after a 4-3 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday. Colorado, which has lost seven straight to Detroit, got two goals from Paul Stastny and a goal and an assist from Milan Hejduk.

Hejduk, who has 15 goals and 15 assists this season, has been steady in January with eight points in eight games after a rocky December. The right wing only had four points in 12 December games.

Saturday's game will also mark the 500th sellout in Avalanche franchise history. The team has sold out 500 of 515 home games since moving to Denver in 1995, including a 487 consecutive game sellout streak from November 9, 1995 to October 14, 2006.

"Reaching the plateau of 500 sellouts is something that everyone in our organization and our fans should really be proud of," Avalanche president Pierre Lacroix said. "We knew that if we could provide this market with a winning team and exciting product, they would support us. They did right from the start and continue to do so."
