Three-goal third period lifts Red Wings past Wild

Sep 28, 2006 - 2:55 AM DETROIT (Ticker) -- Jason Williams scored a pair of goals, including one in the decisive third period, as the Detroit Red Wings posted a 5-3 preseason victory over the Minnesota Wild.

Williams evened the game at 1-1 with a goal early in the second period. Pierre-Marc Bouchard restored Minnesota's lead during a 5-on-3 advantage with just under 5 1/2 minutes left in the session before Detroit took charge.

Mikael Samuelsson scored just 76 seconds into the final period to pull Detroit even at 2-2, but the Wild responded again on a goal by Mikko Koivu seven minutes later.

The Red Wings knotted the game at 3-3 on a goal by Pavel Datsyuk with 11:09 left, and this time the Wild could not answer. Daniel Cleary gave Detroit a 4-3 lead 51 seconds later and Williams capped the scoring with a power-play tally with 4:42 to play.

Goaltender Dominik Hasek went the distance and made 21 saves for Detroit, which outshot Minnesota, 40-24.

Manny Fernandez stopped 35 shots for Minnesota, which took a 1-0 lead 7:21 into the contest on a goal by Pascal Dupuis.
