Fisher records four points as Senators top Maple Leafs

Sep 28, 2006 - 2:57 AM TORONTO (Ticker) -- After the most productive season of his career, Mike Fisher is aiming for bigger things.

Fisher scored a goal and added three assists and defenseman Andrej Meszaros recorded a pair of assists to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 5-3 preseason triumph over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Starting his seventh campaign with Ottawa, Fisher set career highs with 22 goals and 22 assists in 68 games to help lead the Senators to the best record in the Eastern Conference last season.

After setting up Peter Schaefer for a power-play goal at 5:36 of the second period, the 26-year-old Fisher tallied 1:50 later, beating goaltender Mikael Tellqvist during a power play for a 3-0 lead.

Toronto cut the deficit to 3-2 on power-play goals by Aleksander Suglobov and defenseman Bryan McCabe before Fisher and Meszaros combined to feed Daniel Alfredsson, who scored with a man advantage with 5:56 left in the second period.

Matt Stajan brought the Maple Leafs within 4-3 when he scored with 1:19 to go in the second session against netminder Ray Emery. However, Fisher recorded his third assist with a pass to Dean McAmmond, who scored with 4:33 to play.

After winning seven of eight against te Maple Leafs in the regular season, Ottawa defeated Toronto for the second time in three preseason encounters, despite being outshot, 39-31.

Dany Heatley and blue-liner Wade Redden sat out for Ottawa, while Michael Peca and Darcy Tucker did not play for Toronto.
