Predators hope to keep rolling against struggling Blackhawks
Jan 26, 2007 - 2:37 PM Nashville (34-12-3) at Chicago (17-24-7) 8:30 pm ESTCHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Nashville Predators capped the first half of the season as the NHL's hottest team. They hope the six-day layoff has not cooled them down.
Owners of the league's best record, the Predators look to start the season's second half on a winning note Friday when they visit the Chicago Blackhawks in a Central Division clash.
Nashville closed the first half with eight wins in its last nine games and owns a six-point cushion over second-place Detroit (30-14-5) in the division standings. The Predators are one point ahead over Eastern Conference powerhouse Buffalo (33-12-4) for the top mark in the NHL.
Surprisingly, Nashville had only one representative in Wednesday's All-Star Game, defenseman Kimmo Timonen. The Finnish blue-liner, who has nine tallies and 26 assists this season, went scoreless in the midseason showcase.
While the Predators were flying high heading into the All-Star break, the Blackhawks stumbled to a season-high nine-game skid. Chicago has been outscored, 40-19, over the slide.
The Predators and Blackhawks have split their six contests this season but Nashville has won the last three meetings, including a 6-3 home victory on Saturday - the last game prior to the break for both clubs.
