Wild try to regain home dominance against Flames

Jan 26, 2007 - 4:19 PM Calgary (26-17-4) at Minnesota (25-20-4) 8:00 pm EST

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (Ticker) -- One of the NHL's most dominant home teams, the Minnesota Wild will start the second half in comfortable surroundings.

The Wild look to continue their home dominance and snap their two-game skid here when they host the Calgary Flames on Friday in a Northwest Division battle.

Despite going just 8-15-1 on the road, Minnesota has won 17 of its 25 home contests here and currently is eighth in the Western Conference postseason chase.

All-Star Brian Rolston has been the driving force behind the Wild's success, scoring a team-leading 23 goals and 41 points. The veteran right wing had two goals and two assist Wednesday to help pace the West to a 12-9 triumph.

Rolston's performance this season has proved especially important during the absence of star left wing Marian Gaborik, who missed 34 games in the first half with a groin injury. The 24-year-old Czech has seven goals in eight games since returning to action.

Led by All-Star goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff, Calgary is tied with Vancouver (27-19-2) for first place in the Northwest Division.

Kiprusoff, who stopped 8-of-11 shots Wednesday, is 24-16-3 with a 2.28 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage this season.

The Flames have won two of their three meetings with the Wild this season, including a 3-0 victory in Calgary on January 9. Kiprusoff made 26 saves in the contest to record one of his six shutouts this season.
