Canadiens seek to extend winning streak to three games

Jan 27, 2007 - 3:46 PM Montreal (27-17-5) at Toronto (22-21-6) 7:00 pm EST

TORONTO (Ticker) -- The Montreal Canadiens have not been able to take advantage of the Buffalo Sabres' recent slump.

Montreal is hoping it can move closer to first-place Buffalo in the Northeast Division when it hosts the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

The second-place Canadiens trail Buffalo by 11 points and leads the fourth-place Maple Leafs by nine. Montreal is on a two-game win streak, including a 4-3 victory over the Sabres last Saturday, but is only 4-6-0 in its last 10 contests.

Saku Koivu had a goal for Montreal and leads the Canadiens with 42 points.

The Maple Leafs have lost three of their last five and were blasted, 8-2, by the Pittsburgh Penguins last Saturday.

Toronto had high hopes for goaltender Andrew Raycroft when it signed him in the offseason, but he has been average so far this season. Raycroft (20-16-4, 3.10 goals-against average), is 5-4-0 with a 3.13 GAA in January.

The Maple Leafs are hoping to get Darcy Tucker back soon. Tucker has a team-leading 16 goals, including 13 power-play tallies, but has missed the last eight games with a bruised left foot. He is listed as day-to-day.
