Rangers continue chase for playoffs vs. Bruins

Jan 29, 2007 - 3:33 PM NY Rangers (24-21-4) at Boston (22-21-4) 7:00 pm EST

BOSTON (Ticker) -- Fighting for a playoff spot, the New York Rangers have to take advantage of a favorable schedule.

After defeating lowly Philadelphia on Saturday, the Rangers will take on the struggling Boston Bruins on Monday.

Trailing Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay by just two points for the seventh and eighth playoff spots in the Eastern Conference, New York must be able to produce wins against lesser opponents.

On Saturday, the Rangers held on for a 2-1 victory over the Flyers when Jason Krog slipped a shot past the glove side of Robert Esche less than four minutes into the third period.

Playing his fourth game with the Rangers after being claimed off waivers from Atlanta on January 12, Krog scored his first goal since November 24. He had just one goal and three assists in 14 games with the Thrashers before being placed on waivers.

It was just the second victory in the last six games for New York, which is trying to qualify for the postseason for the second season in a row after missing the playoffs in the seven previous campaigns.

The Rangers' only other victory in their last six contests was a 3-1 triumph on January 13 against the Bruins, who have been inconsistent all season.

Boston has lost three of its last four contests, including a 3-1 decision to Ottawa on Saturday. Glen Murray scored his team-leading 23rd goal for the Bruins.
