Spezza, Senators hope to continue stellar play vs. Canadiens
Jan 29, 2007 - 3:38 PM Ottawa (29-20-2) at Montreal (27-18-5) 7:30 pm ESTMONTREAL (Ticker) -- Barely in need of any more help, the Ottawa Senators must be thrilled to have center Jason Spezza back in the lineup.
The surging Senators shoot for their fifth win in their last six games Monday when they visit the Montreal Canadiens.
Saturday's game marked the return of Spezza, who had missed the previous 14 games with a left knee injury. However, Ottawa went 11-2-1 with its star out of the lineup.
Spezza suffered the injury when he was checked into the boards in the third period of a 4-2 loss to Tampa Bay on December 21. The Senators' leading scorer at the time, Spezza has 19 goals and 26 assists in just 37 games this season.
In Saturday's contest, the Senators defeated Boston, 3-1, with Ray Emery making 29 saves. Ottawa tallied three times in the final session to pull out the victory.
With the Senators welcoming back a current star, the Canadiens will be paying homage to a past standout. Montreal will be retiring Ken Dryden's No. 29 jersey in a pregame ceremony.
However, Dryden may also be the best player on the ice for the struggling Canadiens, who have lost four of their last six contests. They were defeated, 4-1, by Toronto on Saturday with goaltender Cristobal Huet stopping 25 shots.
