Maple Leafs open five-game road trip vs. Hurricanes

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Unlike his last visit here, Toronto Maple Leafs coach Paul Maurice likely will not be in a mood to remember old times.

Maurice hopes to guide the Maple Leafs to their fourth victory in five contests when they open a season-high five-game road trip Tuesday against his former team, the Carolina Hurricanes.

This will be Maurice's second visit here as Toronto coach after posting a 227-278-89 record with the Hartford Whalers and the Hurricanes from 1995-2004. The Maple Leafs received a pair of goals from Mats Sundin in a 4-3 victory here December 15.

However, Carolina avenged that loss in their last encounter at Toronto, a 4-1 triumph January 9. Justin Williams scored his 21st goal and Ray Whitney collected a pair of assists for the Hurricanes.

Scoring has not been much of a problem lately for the defending Stanley Cup champions, who have nine goals in two games since the All-Star break.

After posting a 6-2 victory over the Washington Capitals on Friday, Carolina absorbed a 7-3 defeat Saturday for a split of the weekend home-and-home series. Williams netted his 26th tally and Eric Staal had two assists.

Toronto is coming off Saturday's 4-1 triumph over the Montreal Canadiens. Pavel Kubina had two goals and Sundin added his 19th.
