Flyers seek rare home victory vs. Lightning

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Victories have been rare and worth savoring for the Philadelphia Flyers this season. But only for a limited time.

The Flyers, who have the league's worst record, seek their second straight win to snap a 10-game home losing streak Tuesday when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Philadelphia has not won back-to-back contests since December 31-January 2 and are just 3-15-4 at home this season. The Flyers have not sent their home fans away happy since a 3-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on November 24.

Looking to avoid its second 10-game losing streak of the campaign, Philadelphia posted a 2-1 triumph over the Atlanta Thrashers on Sunday. Jeff Carter scored twice, including the eventual game-winner with 62 seconds left, and goaltender Antero Niittymaki snapped a personal 15-game skid with 37 saves.

The Lightning are playing for just the second time since January 20. They entered the break with seven victories in eight contests, needing shootouts to capture the final two.

However, Tampa Bay failed to score on 28 shots on goal in Friday's 2-0 defeat to the New Jersey Devils.

The Lightning are led by 30-goal scorers Martin St. Louis, who is in third place in the scoring race with 66 points, and Vincent Lecavalier. They are one tally off the league lead held by Washington's Alex Ovechkin, Atlanta's Marian Hossa and Anaheim's Teemu Selanne.
