Rangers seek payback in rematch with Maple Leafs

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Most of the New York Rangers have had Wednesday's date circled on their calendars for the past several weeks.

The Rangers look to avenge their worst loss of the season and win for the fourth time in five games Wednesday when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs.

New York is still smarting from a 9-2 loss to Toronto on December 16. The Maple Leafs scored eight times in the first two periods and were sparked by Kyle Wellwood's hat trick and two goals from Alexei Ponikarovsky.

The Rangers are coming off Monday's 6-1 triumph over the Boston Bruins. Petr Prucha scored twice, Matt Cullen added a shorthanded tally and All-Star Brendan Shanahan netted a penalty shot for his 623rd career goal.

New York's Jaromir Jagr has needs one goal for his 611th to surpass Hall of Famer Bobby Hull for 13th place on the all-time list.

Toronto opened a season-high five-game road trip with its second consecutive win and fourth in five outings, a 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.

Nik Antropov scored two goals and Bates Battaglia added a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs, who are 13-9-3 away from home.
