Avalanche seek to maintain home dominance of Wild

Feb 1, 2007 - 4:24 PM Minnesota (27-21-4) at Colorado (25-21-4) 9:00 pm EST

DENVER (Ticker) -- After a fairly successful January, the Colorado Avalanche are ready to open a new month against a division foe.

Colorado tries to build upon its 7-3-2 mark last month when it hosts the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.

The Avalanche have won the last three meetings against the Wild this season and are 12-2-2 here against them all-time. Colorado is 14-10-3 at home and is in fourth place in the Northwest Division, four points behind Minnesota.

Coming off the All-Star break, the Avalanche lost to the Phoenix Coyotes and the Detroit Red Wings before Tuesday's 4-3 victory over the Nashville Predators.

Andrew Brunette and Wojtek Wolski each had a goal and an assist and All-Star Joe Sakic set up two tallies for Colorado, which showed some spark after attempting just 12 against Detroit.

The Wild lost three of their first four games in January before posting a 7-4-2 mark for the month. They have split the first two contests of a five-game road trip.

Minnesota hopes to carry momentum from Tuesday's 5-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Pavol Demitra scored two goals each and All-Star Brian Rolston added two assists for the Wild.

In their most recent encounter, Colorado benefited from Milan Hejduk's shootout tally for a 2-1 win over Minnesota on January 6.
