Ovechkin, Capitals look to get back on track vs. Panthers

SUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) -- While All-Star Alex Ovechkin is on top of his game, the rest of the Washington Capitals are not following suit.

The Capitals look to reverse their recent losing trend Thursday when they visit the Florida Panthers.

Ovechkin continued his stellar play, taking over the NHL lead in goals with his 32nd tally in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators. He also set a career high with a point in his 12th straight contest.

The Capitals are 2-7-0 when their superstar left wing is held without a point. However, they are not faring much better when Ovechkin does record a point.

Holding down 12th place in the Eastern Conference, Washington is seven points behind Tampa Bay for the eighth and final playoff spot.

Florida was blanked, 3-0, by Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Ed Belfour made 21 saves for the Panthers.

Florida has fared worse than Washington this season. The Panthers are tied for 13th in the conference and are eight points behind for the final playoff spot.
