Flyers hope to remain perfect against Thrashers
Feb 3, 2007 - 2:55 PM Philadelphia (12-32-7) at Atlanta (29-17-8) 7:00 pm ESTATLANTA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Flyers have not been very successful against many teams this season. The Atlanta Thrashers, however, are one club against which they have.
The NHL's worst team this campaign, the Flyers hope to remain perfect against the Thrashers when the teams meet for the third time Saturday in Atlanta.
Philadelphia has managed just a dozen wins in 51 games, bringing up the rear in the league standings with 31 points. However, the proud franchise has been considerably better on the road, going 9-17-1 as opposed to a pitiful 3-15-6 mark on home ice.
The Flyers enter Saturday's contest having lost 11 of their last 12. But that one victory came here at Philips Arena on January 28, when Jeff Carter scored both goals in a 2-1 triumph.
Philadelphia also posted a 3-2 shootout victory at home over Atlanta on October 26.
The Thrashers, who sit atop the Southeast Division with 66 points, come into the game having lost two of their last three. Atlanta easily could be on a four-game losing streak, having posted its last two wins beyond regulation.
Ilya Kovalchuk will be looking to begin another goal-scoring streak for the Thrashers. The former Maurice Richard Trophy winner had a four-game run in which he tallied six times halted in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the New York Islanders.
Philadelphia hopes to rebound from a disappointing loss to New Jersey on Thursday. The Flyers held a 5-4 lead in the final minute of the contest before ultimately falling in overtime.
