Sundin looks to lead Maple Leafs to fourth straight win
Feb 3, 2007 - 4:28 PM Toronto (25-21-6) at Ottawa (30-21-2) 7:00 pm ESTOTTAWA (Ticker) -- Despite never recording a 50-goal season, Mats Sundin has been a remarkably consistent scorer.
Sundin tries to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to their season-high tying fourth consecutive victory and help them overcome their recent struggles against the Ottawa Senators when the teams meet Saturday.
An eight-time All Star, Sundin has 16 consecutive 20-goal seasons, the fourth-best total in league history. Toronto's captain has 516 career tallies and three 40-goal campaigns, including a career-best 47 with the Quebec Nordiques in 1992-1993.
The Maple Leafs won for the fifth time in six road contests with Wednesday's 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers. Sundin netted his 20th tally and added an assist and goaltender Andrew Raycroft stopped 37 shots in his 13th straight start.
Ranked second in the Eastern Conference in goals allowed (144), the Senators have won three of their last four but are tied with the Montreal Canadiens, 12 points behind the first-place Buffalo Sabres in the Northeast Division.
Ottawa raised its record to 13-3-1 since December 23 with Tuesday's 3-2 triumph over the Washington Capitals. Dany Heatley scored his 31st goal on a power play and Jason Spezza added a goal and an assist.
The Senators have won 11 of the last 13 encounters against the Maple Leafs since the start of last season, including the last three matchups. Chris Kelly netted the clincher in overtime as Ottawa posted a 3-2 win over Toronto on December 30.
