Rangers seek another road victory vs. Lightning

TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- A couple of days away from home just could be the shot in the arm the New York Rangers need.

The Rangers attempt to improve on their January record and avenge an earlier loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning when the teams meet Saturday for the first of two matchups in seven days.

New York won six of 11 games in January, including two of three after the All-Star break. The squad is 15-11-1 on the road and just 10-11-3 at Madison Square Garden this season.

The Rangers are coming off Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Brendan Shanahan scored his team-leading 26th goal of the season and 624th of his career.

The Lightning have won four of their last five games and nine of 11 - including four shootout triumphs - and trail the first-place Carolina Hurricanes by eight points in the Southeast Division.

Tampa Bay recorded its second shutout victory of the campaign with Thursday's 4-0 win over the Hurricanes. Johan Holmqvist made 31 saves for his seventh triumph in eight starts and Vincent Lecavalier had a goal and an assist in his 600th game.

The Lightning rallied from a three-goal deficit by scoring four times in the final period of a 4-3 win over New York on December 23. Dan Boyle had three goals and an assist and Lecavalier netted the other tally for Tampa Bay.
