Panthers score six straight to top Blackhawks

Sep 29, 2006 - 2:35 AM SUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) -- The Florida Panthers spotted the Chicago Blackhawks a pair of goals before finding a crack in the "Bulin Wall."

Juraj Kolnik scored two goals and set up another and Chris Gratton and defenseman Branislav Mezei each recorded three assists as the Panthers overcame an early deficit to post a 6-3 preseason victory over the Blackhawks.

Former Chicago goaltender Ed Belfour's night got off to a bad start as Michael Blunden and Tony Salmelainen scored to give the Blackhawks a 2-0 lead just 6 1/2 minutes into the game. But Florida took over from there, beating Nikolai Khabibulin twice in the first period and four times in the second to gain control.

Gregory Campbell began the comeback with eight minutes to go in the opening session and Kolnik knotted the contest at 2-2 at 15:23. The Slovakian right wing struck again 2:36 into the second, putting the Panthers ahead for good.

Jozef Stumpel doubled the lead during a 5-on-3 power play at 6:18 and Nathan Horton cashed in on the remaining man advantage 27 seconds later for a 5-2 cushion.

Martin Gelinas completed the outburst with 4:49 left in the second.

Belfour made 19 saves for the Panthers, while Khabibulin stopped 41 shots for the Blackhawks.

Bryan Smolinski also scored and Jeff Hamilton collected two assists for Chicago.
