Bruins try to build off big win
Feb 6, 2007 - 5:28 PM Boston (23-24-4) at Washington (22-25-7) 7:00 pm ESTWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Zdeno Chara and the Boston Bruins are hoping to carry over some momentum.
The Bruins seek a second straight win after snapping a lengthy losing streak when visit the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.
Boston brought the end to a five-game losing streak with a 4-3 overtime victory over the Washington Capitals on Saturday. Chara, the team's lone All-Star, scored the game-winning 1:49 into the extra period. The blue-liner also had two assists in the win.
With the losing streak over, the Bruins now seek a third straight win in the series with the Capitals. Boston captured the previous meeting here with a 3-2 shootout victory on November 15, three days before also posting a 3-2 overtime win at home against Washington.
By continuing their success over the Capitals, the Bruins would move out of 13th place in the Eastern Conference. Washington sits in just a point ahead Boston in 12th with 51 points.
The Capitals snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 shootout win over the New York Islanders on Saturday. Matt Pettinger scored in regulation while Alexander Semin collected the winner in the shootout.
Alex Ovechkin, whose 33 goals lead the league, was held scoreless on Saturday for the second straight game. He is third in the scoring race with 70 points, 14 behind league leader Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
