Flames to honor Vernon before meeting Blackhawks

CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- The Calgary Flames will honor perhaps the greatest goaltender in franchise history when they retire Mike Vernon's No. 30 before their game with the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday.

Vernon, who played 13 seasons with the Flames, is the all-time franchise leader with 262 career wins and 526 games played and led Calgary to its only Stanley Cup in 1989.

The netminder and long-time fan favorite Lanny McDonald are the only players to have their number retired by the team.

The Flames have won three straight and come off a 4-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.

Kristian Huselius, who has been on fire for the Flames, had a goal in Saturday's win. The left wing extended his points streak to 12 games with his latest tally, and has eight goals and 10 assists during his stellar.

Chicago is struggling with a 2-9-2 record in its last 13 games. The Blackhawks started their seven-game road trip with a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday but lost to the San Jose Sharks, 4-2, on Saturday.

Blackhawks netminder Nikolai Khabibulin is 2-9-2 in his last 13 games with 41 goals allowed. He gave up four goals on 31 shots in the loss to San Jose on Saturday.

Chicago right wing Martin Havlat leads the Blackhawks with 26 points and has three points in his last two games, including a goal at San Jose.
