Bruins shoot for third straight win, host Hurricanes

Feb 8, 2007 - 3:16 PM Carolina 27-22-7) at Boston (24-24-4) 7:00 pm EST

BOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Bruins look to build on some mid-season momentum.

The Bruins aim for their third straight win Thursday when they open a three-game homestand against the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes.

Boston has won its last two contests in thrilling fashion, posting an overtime victory at Carolina on Saturday and a shootout triumph at Washington on Tuesday.

Defenseman Zdeno Chara netted the game-winning power-play tally Saturday to lift the Bruins to a 4-3 victory over the reigning champs.

Glen Murray tallied twice in regulation for Boston, which won for the first time in three meetings with Carolina this season.

The Bruins followed up that win by outlasting the Capitals, 3-2, on Tuesday. Tim Thomas made 32 saves and rookie Phil Kessel scored the winner in the shootout for Boston, which trails Carolina by nine points for the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Hurricanes hope to carry momentum from Tuesday's 2-1 triumph at Montreal. All-Star Justin Williams and defenseman Frantisek Kaberle both tallied for Carolina, which snapped a four-game skid.
