Wild look to snap home woes, host Panthers

Feb 8, 2007 - 3:40 PM Florida (20-24-11) at Minnesota (29-22-4) 8:00 pm EST

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (Ticker) -- The road-tested Minnesota Wild will try to bring their stellar play to home ice.

After finishing with a winning record on their five-game road trip, the Wild return home Thursday to host the Florida Panthers.

Posting an 18-5-3 record at Xcel Energy Center this season, Minnesota had protected its home ice effectively until dropping its last four games here. However, the Wild sandwiched three road wins around two bookend losses on their recent trip.

In the jaunt's finale, the Wild dropped a 4-2 decision at Dallas on Tuesday. Playing in place of injured goaltender Manny Fernandez, Niklas Backstrom made 31 saves but suffered his first loss in four games.

Suffering its second straight tough loss, Florida squandered a two-goal advantage in the third period of Tuesday's 5-4 loss to Colorado.

Chris Gratton had a goal and two assists for Panthers, who suffered a 7-0 loss against Los Angeles on Saturday, their worst home loss in club history.

Florida is struggling on the road this campaign, holding a 6-14-8 record away from home - the fewest amount of road wins in the NHL.
