Smith, Stars aim to keep rolling

DALLAS (Ticker) -- Mike Smith has made the most of his opportunity to play, and the Dallas Stars are reaping the rewards.

The Stars look for their eighth win in 11 games when they host the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday.

Smith shined on Saturday, making 32 saves in a 1-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks. The goaltender has three shutouts in nine starts this season and is 7-3-0 with a 1.97 goals-against average.

Jussi Jokinen scored the Dallas goal on the power play in the third period. The right win entered with just one goal in his last 19 games.

Colorado, losers in three of its last four, starts a stretch where it plays four of its next five on the road. The Avalanche are 11-11-1 on the road this season and will try to rebound from a 6-3 home defeat to the Atlanta Thrashers on Thursday.

Paul Stastny led the Avalanche with a goal and an assist. Goaltender Jose Theodore was pulled after allowing three goals on 11 shots. Theodore is 1-2-0 in his last three starts with 15 goals against.

Theodore struggled in his last start against the Stars. He allowed five goals on 22 shots in a 5-4 loss on December 27.
