Brodeur, Devils take aim at Buffalo

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils have been playing so well, they have first place in the Eastern Conference in their sight.

Brodeur and the Devils look to keep rolling when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday.

New Jersey is 15-2-3 since the Christmas break and has built a nine-point lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Atlantic Division. The Devils trail the conference-leading Buffalo Sabres by just six points.

Brodeur made 25 saves and registered his 10th shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Thursday. He leads the NHL with 34 wins and a 2.04 goals-against average. The last time Brodeur faced the Lightning, he made 28 saves in a 2-0 victory on January 26.

The Lightning are 4-1-0 in their last five games but come off a 5-0 loss to the New York Rangers on Friday. Vincent Lacavalier had his four-game goals streak snapped and but still leads the league with 34 tallies.

Martin St. Louis was blanked for the second straight game. The right wing has 72 points, the second most in the NHL.
