Maple Leafs, Islanders begin playoff push

TORONTO (Ticker) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders have some work to do if they want to qualify for the playoffs.

The Leafs are in ninth place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina for the final playoff spot. The Islanders are one point behind Toronto.

After a 3-1-0 road trip, the Maple Leafs returned home and fell to Pittsburgh, 6-5, on Saturday. Mats Sundin and defenseman Bryan McCabe each had a goal and an assist for Toronto.

Andrew Raycroft struggled against the Penguins as he stopped just 22-of-28 shots. He has allowed nine goals on 45 shots in his last two losses.

The Islanders are 0-1-1 on a three-game road trip which concludes with this contest. New York plays four of its next six games at home.

Last Saturday, the Islanders lost to Boston, 4-3, in a shootout.

New York has been getting solid production from Miroslav Satan, who has seven points in his last six games. The veteran right wing has 17 goals and 46 points in 45 games against the Maple Leafs.
